Yes. Anyone can use ACE PDFMD without signing up — anonymous visitors get 10 free tasks/downloads per day. Creating a free account removes that daily download limit entirely — free accounts get unlimited downloads. There's no credit card required for either. A paid Pro plan ($2.99/month or $24.99/year) additionally removes ads and the smaller per-request file-size/file-count limits, for people who need heavier use.
No. Every tool runs in your web browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge, on desktop or mobile. There is nothing to download or install.
Many tools (page organizing tools like Merge, Split, Rotate, Crop, Watermark, and more) never upload your file at all — they run entirely inside your browser using JavaScript, so your file never leaves your device. For tools that do require server-side processing (conversions, OCR, compression), your file travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection, is written only to temporary, in-memory storage, and is automatically and permanently deleted — usually immediately after your result is ready, and always within 60 minutes at the absolute latest, even if you never come back to download it. No third-party AI or cloud API is used to process your documents. All conversions, OCR, and edits run on self-hosted, open-source software (such as LibreOffice, Tesseract OCR, pikepdf, and pdfplumber) on our own servers — your content is never sent to OpenAI, Google Gemini, or any other AI provider.

ACE PDFMD is built on, and grateful to, several open-source projects: pikepdf (MPL-2.0), pdfplumber (MIT) and pypdfium2 (Apache-2.0) for reading, rendering and editing PDFs, img2pdf (LGPL-3.0) for lossless image-to-PDF conversion, and Tesseract OCR and LibreOffice on the server. In your browser, KaTeX (MIT), Turndown (MIT) and Mammoth.js (BSD-2-Clause) handle rendering and conversion. PyMuPDF (AGPL-3.0) is no longer used anywhere in the project. We thank the authors and communities behind these projects.
