Compare Markdown
Highlight line-by-line differences between two Markdown files.
Compare two Markdown files and spot every change between them
When two people edit the same documentation file, or you keep an old draft next to a revised one, it is hard to tell what changed just by reading both copies. This tool takes two Markdown files and shows the differences line by line, so you do not have to hunt for edits by eye.
You upload the original file and the revised file, and the result highlights which lines were added, which were removed, and which stayed the same, so you see exactly where the two versions diverge. There are no settings to configure; you pick the two files and the comparison runs right away, useful for checking a draft against a published version or two branches of the same guide.
Processing happens on the site's servers over a secure connection, and both files are deleted within sixty minutes. The tool compares text line by line, so moving a paragraph without changing its wording usually shows up as a removal in one spot and an addition elsewhere rather than a single move. If you need to combine the files afterward instead of reviewing them, Merge Markdown is the better choice.
Comparing files is free on a daily allowance, with a free account removing that limit, and it works the same on a phone, a laptop, or any other device with a browser.
How to use the Compare Markdown tool
