Markdown Viewer

View a Markdown file online without installing an editor

Readme files, technical notes, and blog drafts often live as plain .md files, full of pound signs and asterisks that are hard to read at a glance. If someone sends you a Markdown file and you want to check it before publishing, you do not need to install an editor.

Open the Markdown Viewer, choose your .md or .markdown file, and it renders right away as a normal formatted document. Headings appear at their proper sizes, tables line up in columns, and code blocks keep their spacing. Images with a web address or pasted in as embedded data show up in place, but a path to another file on your computer will not load. There are no settings to pick; you just load the file and read it.

This tool works entirely inside your browser, so the file itself never leaves your device. That makes it a fast way to check formatting before sharing a document.

What renders correctly

• Headings from level one through six.
• Tables with borders and aligned columns.
• Fenced and inline code blocks.
• Bullet and numbered lists, including nested ones.
• Images linked by a web address, or pasted in as embedded data.

If you need a shareable file instead of an on screen preview, try Markdown to PDF or Markdown to Word for a portable version.
